Other Sources
Pre-Made Raw
available online or through local co-ops
this is our our preference – less expensive than Commercial and easier than DIY
Examples - DFW Ross Wells Raw Co-Op (our primary source) - Texas Tripe (we use them when we need food between co-op deliveries) - Find a Co-Op in your area. - There are also plenty of companies with online ordering, but with shipping prices and the other options close-by, these haven’t been cost effective for us. Simply Rawsome (MN) (also on Facebook) My Pet Carnivore (IN) Raw Feeding Miami (FL) Green Tripe (CA) Big Country Raw (Canada)
DIY Raw
usually the least expensive, but most time-intensive
requires you to balance the diet
Examples - grocery store - butcher shops - ethnic markets (we love getting interesting items at these stores, even though we use pre-made food!) - hunting - finding a hunter or farmer to give you the parts they’re not using (organs, bones, antlers, etc) - Mallary Goldman raises rabbits for pet consumption! She delivers throughout DFW as needed. Visit her Facebook group here.
Commercial Raw
usually the most expensive, but requires almost no prep work
some of these are balanced, but others are not
often contain a high percentage of plant matter
found in the freezer section of pet stores, or online (Amazon or Chewy)
Examples (We don’t have much experience with commercial raw foods, so we can’t recommend a specific one. We’re linking to Dog Food Advisor for reference.) - Ziwi Peak (air dried) We do have experience with Ziwi Peak. Our dogs love the Tripe & Lamb version and the Lamb version. It’s expensive (about $35 for 2 pounds), but we use it as treats instead of food. - Answers - Genesis - Instinct - Primal Frozen (frozen) - Primal Freeze-Dried (freeze-dried) - Sojos Complete (freeze-dried) - Stella & Chewy’s Dinners (frozen) - Stella & Chewy’s Dinners (freeze-dried) - Vital Essentials (frozen) - Vital Essentials (freeze-dried)
