Sources for Raw Food

We get the majority of our raw dog food from the DFW Ross Wells Co-Op and from Texas Tripe. There are many good sources for raw pet food, with different price levels and relative convenience. Let’s explore several of the popular sources for raw food.

DFW Ross Wells Co-Op

We get the majority of our food from this co-op.

  • Orders every 2 months - Fort Worth calendar - Dallas calendar

  • For those who join between orders, Cindy Gordon usually has food available to purchase.

  • Delivery in Fort Worth (west group) and Addison (east group) - deliveries take place at a warehouse on a weekday evening - everyone must help unload & sort before loading up your car - takes about an hour

  • located in Wisconsin (delivered on an 18-wheeler truck)

  • Quantities of 40-50 pounds - packaged in 5 pounds, 50 pounds divided, and 50 pounds whole - make sure to order the FINE grind, not the coarse grind

  • Average price around $1.50 per pound

  • Balanced Blends – These can be fed alone without adding additional ingredients. - Titan Red - Titan Blue

  • Single Proteins – These are ground (like the balanced blends), but you’d need to supplement with organ and/or bone. - turkey - beef - chicken - salmon (only coarse grind) - tripe – Note: this smells TERRIBLE, but the dogs LOVE it!

  • Raw Meaty Bones (RMB’s) - veal bones - chicken backs - skinless chicken necks

Texas Tripe

When we need food between co-op deliveries, we order from Texas Tripe

  • Order anytime

  • FedEx shipping is also available.

  • Drop locations all over Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee & Colorado - drops take place in retail parking lots during the day on weekdays & Saturdays - everyone parks & orders are handed off to you from their delivery truck - takes about 10 minutes

  • located in Detroit, Texas

  • Quantities of 2-40 pounds - packaged in 2 pounds, 5 pounds, and 10 pounds

  • Average price around $2.00 per pound

Pre-Made Raw

DIY Raw

  • usually the least expensive, but most time-intensive

  • requires you to balance the diet

  • Examples - grocery store - butcher shops - ethnic markets (we love getting interesting items at these stores, even though we use pre-made food!) - hunting - finding a hunter or farmer to give you the parts they’re not using (organs, bones, antlers, etc) - Mallary Goldman raises rabbits for pet consumption!
